For the culminating project, students will be given a variety of options from which they may select one to create something to showcase their understanding and knowledge of the unit's major concepts and themes. Students' projects must be accompanied by a detailed proposal and project plan.
Directions: For the final projects, you have the option to work with a partner or on your own. You will choose one project from the list provided and develop a rubric that details how your project will be evaluated. When creating the rubric, bear in mind that your evaluation must include reflect the quality of content learned, skills practiced, resources used and the development of the final product.
You must also write a project proposal of at least 250 words that outlines what you intend to learn and how you intend to prove that you've learned it.

A Week in His Shoes: Create a fake Facebook profile as one character from Of Mice and Men. Use this profile in conjunction with a blog that you will set up as the same character. Imagine yourself as that character and post at least 6 blogs (approximately 250 words each), and at least a week's worth of posts on the Facebook page. Remember to include time-relevant information and keep the posts directly connected to the plot of the novel.
Research Paper: Write a 5-7 page research paper based on the time period in which George and Lenny live. What is the significance of the story being set in this era? What are some of the characteristics of the time period that helps shape the plot and/or characters?
Paint: Create an artistic rendering (drawing, painting, etc.) of how a "hero" is depicted in Of Mice and Men. Then create another artistic rendering of how a hero is depicted in one of the other accompanying titles that we read. Write at least one page reflecting on the similarities and differences between the two depictions.
Author: Write a short fiction narrative (5-7 pages) in which you re-imagine George & Lenny's story as if it were set in the present.
Obstacle Course Board Game: In the movie Hercules, Hercules had to train in an obstacle course before fighting and proving himself a hero. What do you think a hero needs to know and be able to do to become a hero? Create a board game, including obstacles that a person must go through and accomplish to be considered a hero.
Newspaper: Create a newspaper including events and news that happened in Of Mice and Men and during the Great Depression. Include all elements of a newspaper including: news, weather, business, comics, travel, and so forth.
George and Lenny's Soundtrack: Create a 15 track soundtrack that you feel adequately expresses the plot, tones and emotions throughout Of Mice and Men. Justify your decisions in a short paragraph for each selection in regard to style of music, lyrics, instrumental quality, etc. Arrange the tracks onto a CD and create an album cover for your soundtrack.
